At Loaves & Fishes of the Rio Grande Valley, we recognize that good health is an important part of achieving stability and self-sufficiency. While we do not currently have a full-time medical professional on staff, we remain committed to supporting the health and wellness needs of those we serve.
We are especially grateful for the dedication of Nurse Lily, a volunteer healthcare professional who generously gives her time and expertise on a scheduled basis to assist our clients. Her compassionate service, along with the support of other experienced volunteers and community partners, helps provide health education, wellness guidance, basic health screenings, and referrals to community resources when appropriate.
Through our Great Physician Healthy Living Program, we strive to promote healthier lives by connecting individuals and families with information, resources, and support that encourage overall well-being. We also work with community partners and volunteers to help clients navigate available healthcare and mental health resources.
As community needs continue to grow, Loaves & Fishes is actively pursuing funding opportunities to expand health and wellness services and increase access to care for those facing barriers to healthcare. Our goal is to build upon the strong foundation created by our volunteers and partners to offer even greater support to the individuals and families we serve.
Services and program availability may vary based on volunteer capacity, partnerships, funding, and available resources.
Services available Monday to Friday in Harlingen and Wednesday afternoons in Raymondville.
The Great Physician Healthy Living Program provides opportunities for individuals and families to learn about health, wellness, and community resources available throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Through educational events, presentations, and partnerships with healthcare providers, community organizations, and service agencies, participants can gain valuable information about healthcare services, insurance options, wellness programs, durable medical equipment resources, and other supportive services.
These events help connect community members with trusted professionals and organizations that can assist them in making informed decisions about their health and well-being. By increasing awareness of available resources, we empower individuals and families to take a more active role in managing their health and accessing the support they need.
In addition, Loaves & Fishes offers life skills classes for shelter residents and community members. These classes are designed to promote personal growth, self-sufficiency, and long-term stability by focusing on topics such as daily living skills, budgeting and financial literacy, goal setting, employment readiness, workplace success, and other practical skills that support independent living.
