Loaves & Fishes addresses the causes and consequences of poverty.

The causes and consequences of poverty are often the same things because many poor people find themselves in a vicious cycle. For example, many people become poor because they have suffered a health crisis. That health crisis may lead to high medical bills, lost time from work or a loss of job. The loss of work results in the loss of health insurance. Lack of health insurance lead to poor medical care. Worsening health makes finding and keeping a job more difficult.

At Loaves & Fishes we work on helping people with medical care, housing and income stabilization, and job search. For many of our clients escaping from poverty is a puzzle. The pieces have to fit just right to deal with the causes and consequences of their difficulty.

Willacy County faces the same challenges that Cameron County faces, but to a greater degree.

We are grateful that so many partners in Willacy County have come forward to help us expand our range of services in Raymondville. Due to the generosity of the community we will be able to offer all our services in Willacy County in 2018. In addition to meals served, our Community Health Nurse or a Case Worker will be at our Raymondville location Monday through Friday starting this year.
